Artist Statement

My passion and enthusiasm started as a child, collecting and rummaging through grandparent's vintage chests, uncovering antique dresses and jewellery. I have continued this passion throughout my life, resulting in a real enthusiasm for recycling through donations and charity shop finds. I believe that something old and worn has a past life and holds memory, telling a story to the owner. I attempt to use this recycled element in all of my work, whilst incorporating the use of paper as I believe this adds a diverse quality next to fabric.

I combine this vintage inspiration with my love for stimulating cultures such as Africa and India, I take bright bold colours, form and pattern and blend it with my obsession with vintage textiles.

I use a variety of mixed media processes such as: print, machine and hand embroidery, beading, wire and lace work. Applying these in 2D and 3D form results in a broad collection of fashion accessories and interior samples.
