What we do

Pretty Rubbish's Background:

Pretty Rubbish is a partnership between Victoria Geary and Rebecca Griffiths, two textile designers who are passionate about the influence of sustainability on design and fashion. They focus on recycling old textiles into funky new clothing, accessories and objects of beauty.

Re-interpreting the 1940's concept of 'make do and mend' their outlook on creative adventure is to inspire people to re-use and re-make and to enjoy the creative process showing the community that textiles "isn't just about doileys and curtains" and can be fun, exciting and as experimental and creative as any other artistic activity. They both studied Textile Design at Falmouth University Graduating in 2008 specialising in sustainable mixed media fashion accessories.

Pretty Rubbish Aims:

  • To motivate and inspire local people into recycling and remaking textiles.

  • To help the local economy by demonstrating how little money needs to be spent to aquire new clothes.

Swap Shops and recycled textile workshop:

We are providing three activity days at local accessible venues in Shropshire swap shops from 10:30am- 12pm & workshop from 1pm-4pm

Craven Arms- Community Centre- Sat 5th Sept

Ludlow- Oscars @ the Assembly Rooms Sat 31st Oct

Bishops Castle @ the Youth Service Cabin- Sat 14th Nov

We will be offering a clothing swap shop and a workshop session; focusing on recycling textiles this will include a basic clothes surgery where we will demonstrate and help participants create textile accessories or simply re-vamp old items of clothing.

In conjuction with this we will be offering local craftspeople who specialise in recycled arts and crafts the opportunity to exhibit their work, to enable them to raise their profile within the local community, sell their work and inspire participants.

We aim to demonstrate to people the ease and importance of recycling clothes, not ony economically, but environmentally. We want people to enjoy the creative process and experiment with textiles, overall making the workshop a fun, enjoyable experience for participants, inspiring people in the creative arts.
